Former Remploy workers back in business with launch of worker co-operative

A social enterprise dedicated to providing essential employment, training and rehabilitation for disabled people in Yorkshire has been declared officially open today by Ed Balls, the shadow chancellor and MP for Morley and Outwood.

Owned and run by its workforce, the Morley-based Enabled Works Ltd formed after 12 former employees of Remploy Leeds and Pontefract – which closed during 2012 – each invested £5,000 of their redundancy to create a worker co-operative.
